Biswanath: A
herd of wild elephants entered the Bihali area of Biswanath chariali on Sunday
(December 14) night causing disturbance among the people. The herd of the
elephant strayed out of Kaziranga National Park (KNP), the sixth addition which
was made under the Northern Range, Biswanath in search of food and was roaming around
the Bihali area of the district.
The herd of 3-4 elephant entered the Baghmari and
Balipukhuri area, Bihali around 12.30 pm on Sunday night from the forest side
and destroyed two houses of namely Boudoraj Chetry and Raju Chetry, eat 10
sacks of rice and 2 sacks of lentils from a ration shop causing a lot of damage
to the area.
However, no injuries of people in the area is reported.
The local people of the area informed the forest
department officials about the elephant coming to the township area.
A local spokesperson said, the elephants have been
roaming around the places of Bihali for long period and destroyed paddy crops
and caused a lot of damage but still no political leader reached the spot
neither they help them with something.
The local people demand the government for the
compensation for the damage and also demand the forest department to prevent
such attacks of wild elephants in the area in future.
Earlier in 2018 a herd of wild elephants which was also
strayed out of Kaziranga National Park, sixth addition destroyed several houses
and crops at Gohpur in Biswanath district and Chariduar near Assam Arunachal
Border in Sonitpur district.
