JAMUGURIHAT: An eminent drama artiste, actor, columnist, author, director, recipient of Sonit Knwor Gajen Baruah Award and a retired professor of English of THB College, Bhaben Bora breathed his last at his Deka Sundar residence on Thursday night due to prolonged illness. He was 92.
Bhaben Bora was one among the guardians of the modern Jamugurihat who also held the post of the president of Sonitpur Zila Sahitya Sabha. He was former president of the historic Barechahariya Bhaona Committee. He was awarded Sonit Knwor Gajen Baruah award by the State Government in the year 2019 for his distinguished contribution in the field of drama.
He was closely associated with many socio-cultural organizations of the greater Jamugurihat area. Organizations and individuals, including Sootea MLA Padma Hazarika, representatives of Barechahariya Bhaona Committee, Barechahariya Raij Sabha, Sonitpur Zila Sahitya Sabha, AASU Jamugurihat, Sundaram Sanskritik Gosthi, Jamuguri Sports Association, THB College unit, Ban Theater, Jamuguri HSS, Asom Natya Sanmilan, Naduar Press Club among others paid rich tribute to his mortal remains on Friday morning. Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma condoled the death of drama activist Bhaben Bora.
His last rites were performed with State honour at around 1 PM. He leaves behind his wife, two sons along with a host of relatives. Bora's death has been widely mourned at Jamugurihat.
