Guwahati: Senior Journalist Pratap Bodoloi has passed away on the night of February 19 at his residence in Jonali. He breathed his last at around 10:35 pm.

The 72 year old was diabetic and his health condition was not good for the one and a half years. As per reports, the health condition deteriorated in the last one year after he was diagnosed with diabetes.

The stalwart journalist was born on April 1, 1949 and he leaves behind his wife Dr. Ruma Bordoloi, a prominent media personality, along with their son and two daughters.

His funeral will take place at around 12 PM on February 19 at the Nabagraha Crematorium at Silpukhuri in Guwahati.

He had an illustrious career in the media industry. He happened to be first ever Television News Anchor of Assam and he also held the post of Deputy Director of All India Radio (AIR) News and Doordarshan Kendra (DDK) Guwahati.

He was one of the pioneer figures in the media industry and was the first person to lend his voice for the dubbing in Guwahati Planetarium.

His stature was so high that he was known as the vanguard of TV journalism in Assam. He also happened to be the founder of News Time Assam, a satellite television channel, and served as its editor-in-chief. He also had an association with DY365.

He also happened to be the editor-in-chief of Edinor Sangbad, an Assamese daily.

Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma has also expressed his condolences on the sudden demise of the senior journalist and took to twitter to share his sorrow.
