SIVASAGAR: As part of its objective to provide strong support services to the students towards career advancement and employment opportunities, Gargaon College organized a five-day Employability Skills Training Programme for girl students from March 13 to March 17.

The training programme conducted by Mahindra Pride Classroom, an initiative of Nandi Foundation, in collaboration with IQAC, Gargaon College, was inaugurated by Dr Sabyasachi Mahanta, Principal of Gargaon College and renowned academician. In his inaugural address, Dr Mahanta spoke about the increasing importance of life skills and soft skills in moulding the careers of students in a competitive age. He further appreciated the effort of IQAC of the college for taking the initiative to hold such a programme.

During the programme, employability skills training was imparted to the final year graduate and postgraduate girl students of the college. During the five-day training programme, the resource persons imparted skills ranging from life skills, soft skills and communication skills to presentation and interview skills aimed at transforming the learners into confident, determined, goal-oriented individuals to pursue successful careers in the sectors of their choice. Issues such as developing an identity and improving one’s self-esteem, managing emotions and overcoming obstacles, building relationships and polishing one’s interpersonal skills, enhancing and improving employability skills, improving personal and professional effectiveness, developing problem solving and critical thinking skills were also part of the training module. The mode of training for all the sessions comprised lectures, group discussions and presentations during which the students participated actively in various activities.
