DHUBRI: An ultimatum of 15 days given to the Director of Assam Urban Water Supply and Sewerage Board by the Assam Urban Water Supply and Sewerage Board Employees' Association ended on Tuesday.

The ultimatum was given on their four-point charter of demands which included regularization of non-regular employees working as work-charge for many years, promotion and increment of salaries for employees who have been working for over 10 years, depositing the group gratuity in accordance with revised norms, and introduction of leave salary contribution for the employees immediately. General secretary of Assam Urban Water Supply and Sewerage Board Employees' Association, Anjanjyoti Sarma said that many times earlier they had to postpone their agitation programme after assurance by the higher authority that the demands would be fulfilled. "But nothing tangible came out and so we submitted our demands before the director of our department on June 8 this year with an ultimatum of 15 days to fulfil the demands. However, the ultimatum ends today," Sarma said.

President of the association, Babul Bora said that they had postponed the agitation programme on August 19 as State Assembly Speaker Hitendra Nath Goswami intervened 16 hours prior to the programme and invited them for discussion.

"Accordingly we sat across the table wherein he assured to look into our demands soon. But no step has been initiated to fulfil our demands. Now we will soon start our agitation programme," Bora said.
