Silchar: The district administration of Cachar has earned kudos for its sustained and concerted action plan to make “Beti Bachao, Beti Padao” campaign a success, involving different layers of administrative machinery, dedicated manpower and tea garden management. Deputy Commissioner Laya Madduri is not leaving any stone unturned to encourage and bolster up child protection committees in rural areas and tea belts. She reached out to tea garden management to help in reporting and addressing child rights violation cases. They have also been advised to ensure that no child laborers are engaged in tea gardens.
Quite significantly, as part of the campaign, ‘Kanya Sree Rath’ was flagged off by Laya Madduri from the district disposal office on Wednesday which rolled out to cover the entire rural and tea garden areas of Cachar by March 8. The Rath will arouse awareness and consciousness among people and in particular girls against gender discrimination through audiovisuals and street plays. During the campaign, all the weekly and Bagan markets will be covered. This will go a long way in empowering every girl to assert her rights to have a rightful place in society.
Besides media persons, others present on the occasion of the flag-off ceremony included Lalita Rangpipi ADC, Rasraj Das, assistant commissioner, Maria Tanin, Abhilash Barnawal, and Raj Kumar Kedia, social welfare officer. At the meet with tea garden management, those who graced their presence with Laya Madduri were Rupali Pegu, assistant labor commissioner, Arun Jyoti Dey, lead district manager and Sunil Sinha, superintendent of excise.
