Kokrajhar: The All BTC Bengali Youth Students’ Federation (BYSF) on Thursday staged a two-hour demonstration near the DC office here demanding permanent solution to the problems of Hindu Bengalis of Assam. The federation alleged that many Hindu Bengalis had been excluded in the final draft NRC whereas hundreds of illegal Muslim immigrants had found place.
In a memorandum to Chief Minister Sarbananda Sonowal through the Kokrajhar Deputy Commissioner, the president of the All BTC BYSF, Kokrajhar district committee, Bikash Debnath said that about 19 lakh people had not been included or enlisted in the second phase of NRC draft. He said among 19 lakh, the number of Hindu Bengalis was maximum although they had legal and proper documents. He also said that the draft NRC was suspicious and seemed manipulated to keep Bengalis out of the NRC.
Debnath appealed to the Chief Minister to arrange for an unbiased mechanism for the safeguard of the Bengali people residing in Assam. He said that the legal citizens of India were being harassed in the name of D-voters and foreigners by the border police of Assam. As many as 44 legal Indians had committed suicide due to prolonged atrocities upon them in the name of D-voter and foreigner, merely based upon language, title and culture, he said, adding that the deceased persons had proved themselves as Indians before the court various time.
He cited example of one Madhubala Mandal of Bishnupur in Chirang district who was labelled as D-voter by the border police although she was not a foreigner and she had been lodged in the Kokrajhar detention camp for more than two years.
The federation demanded that all genuine citizens must be included in the NRC without any hurdle but the government should keep an eye on the illegal immigrants from the neighbouring countries.
