Guwahati: How would it feel to see a golden langur playing amongst your betel nut trees? Well, it definitely came as a pleasant surprise for a family in Bijni, Assam when they found a rare Gee's golden langur hopping and jumping around in their garden.

The arrival of the langur in the locality soon drew the attention of locals who were soon seen visiting the area to regale their eyes with sights of the rare animal. While some were busy offering bananas to the tailed visitor, other were seen clicking pictures.

"The langur must have come from the hills nearby. He has been feeding on litchis in our garden and we too have offered him food. We request people not to harm the langur," Kishore Brahma, the owner of the residence said.

The Gee's golden langur, popularly known as the golden the langur is an endangered primate species found in some parts of western Assam and the foothills of Bhutan, and is one of the most endangered species in India. Long considered sacred by many Himalayan people, the golden langur was first brought to the attention of the western world by the naturalist E. P. Gee in the 1950s.
