GOLAGHAT: A team of police from Ghiladhari Police Station in Golaghat conducted search in a vehicle and recovered monkeys and birds of endangered species which were being smuggled to Chennai.

Three persons were nabbed by the police in this connection. According to report, a Scorpio which was on its way to Chennai from Imphal was stopped by the police at Dus Mile Khuti area and when the vehicle was searched, cages were found in which 10 monkeys and two birds of endangered species were there. The police apprehended Arjun Agarwalla from Tamil Nadu, Mohammed Faruk from Imphal and Aiss Khan from Manipur.

Later, the forest department was informed and a forest department team from Jamuguri reached the spot. The police handed over the monkeys and birds to the forest department. The forest department officials stated that these endangered species were found only in Brazil and South America.
