TEZPUR: An equality football match was organized at Bateli Tea Estate by the team of Seven Sisters Development Assistance (SeSTA), as a part of the Women Safety Accelerator Fund (WSAF). The concept of the match was such that two teams consisting of both male and female players would play a friendly match against each other. The rules of the match were such that only a person of the same sex could snatch the ball and the goal score would only be counted if it was made by a girl. The match was graced by the presence of the General Manager of the tea estate, Medical Officer and other officials, apart from the community and the SeSTA team.

The General Manager praised the concept of the match as it was one of its kind and it was done for the first time in Bateli TE. He also added that women were no longer lagging behind and they were prospering in every field, from politics to sports. He also expressed his gratitude for motivating the adolescents and women of his tea estate and bringing them forward and encouraging them to take a stand in the society.

The players also expressed their feelings of joy and shared that they really enjoyed playing together. They said that it was a sign that the society was changing; women and girls were getting more opportunities and their husbands and children came to cheer them up. They were hopeful that such matches and initiatives would continue in future.
