DHAKUAKHANA: The water level in the Brahmaputra has risen in Dhakuakhana subdivision of the Lakhimpur district. Erosion by the river has also affected Modarguri Baligaon under Matmara Gaon Panchayat of the subdivision. Erosion has been going on at Modarguri Baligaon for past 4-5 days, causing panic among the riverside people.

"If the erosion continuous, the Chichi-Tekeliphuta embankment will be at stake. The rising water of the Brahmaputra will pose a threat to the newly-constructed embankment," stated the local person.

Even now no responsible personnel, neither from Dhakuakhana Water Resource Division nor from Dhakuakhana sub-divisional administration, yet visited the erosion-affected areas. On the other hand, the local people have demanded to implement erosion-prevention measures in the affected areas immediately.
