LAKHIMPUR: Lakhimpur district administration once again launched an eviction drive on Tuesday at the dumping ground of North Lakhimpur Municipal Board (NLMB) located at Chandmari by the side of the Somdiri River.

Notably, the district administration launched the first eviction drive at this dumping ground on September 30 to remove the illegal encroachment upon 14 bighas of land by 76 families. After some days, a section of these evicted families started to live by re-building sheds at their evicted old venues inside the dumping ground and roadside. The district administration pulled down these rebuilt establishments of these families on Tuesday. As a result of it, these families became homeless for the second time.

The eviction drive, initiated under the aegis of NLMB, was led by DSP (Headquarter) Runa Neog, North Lakhimpur Police Station OC Aditya Prakash Deori, Khelmati Outpost In-charge Dhrubajyoti Baishya in the presence of Debashish Goswami, the Chief Executive Officer of the North Lakhimpur Municipal Board.

On the other hand, the Pub Chandmari Development Committee convened an urgent meeting at Chandmari Middle English School located near the dumping ground following the development. The meeting, chaired by its president Nurul Haque, unanimously decided to submit a memorandum to Lakhimpur DC on November 18 demanding the shifting of the dumping ground to an isolated place of the district and to rehabilitate the evicted families who were paying land revenue and municipal taxes and to reconstruct the dilapidated road from North Lakhimpur Shiv Mandir via Pub Chandmari to Pachim Chandmari Tiniali.
