GUWAHATI: In an embarrassment for the Assam BJP-led government which has been claiming taking of zero-tolerance policy against corruption, one of its ex-MLA's name has mired into a massive financial scam that allegedly happened in the constituency during her tenure.

According to reports, Angoorlata Deka, the ex-MLA of Batadrawa constituency, Assam, allegedly, misappropriated and embezzled a huge sum of money to the tune of Rs. 2 crores from a government fund allotted to her constituency.

The state government had allotted the fund to construct extra classrooms in the schools of the constituency. Surprisingly, the respective schools are yet to receive the money.

A section of people of the constituency alleged that the ex-MLA and her actor husband embezzled the money abusing her power. Some Headmasters also said that they did not receive the money and demanded an inquiry into the irregularity. Deka was MLA of the Batadrawa constituency from 2016 to 2021.

In the last assembly elections, she was defeated by the Congress MLA Sibamoni Bora. Following the defeat, allegations of massive financial irregularities started surfacing against her.
