KOKRAJHAR: The Ex-BLT Welfare Society (BLTWS) of outside BTC on Sunday placed their fresh demands before the government for the complete rehabilitation of ex-BLT members of districts living outside BTC and one Rajya Sabha seat to Boro people besides implementation of clauses of BTR accord signed on January 27, 2020.
An emergent executive meeting of the Ex-BLT Welfare Society of outside BTC was held at Bodo Sahitya Sabha Bhawan-cum-Bodo Cultural Centre at Bathoupuri in Guwahati on Sunday with Shantanu Basumatary, president, Ex-BLT Welfare Society (Outside BTC) in the chair. The objective of the meeting was delivered by Bistiram Narzary, general secretary of the society. The senior executive members of ex-BLT from different districts of Assam attended the meeting and came to a decision for raising a united voice for their demands including problems of Boro Kachari Welfare Autonomous Council (BKWAC). The demands of the ex-BLT Welfare Society of outside BTC include-complete rehabilitation of ex-BLT cadres of outside BTC, one Rajya Sabha seat to Boro people from outside BTC from Mitrojath and holding of election to BKWAC etc.
Talking to this correspondent, the advisor of Ex-BLT Welfare Society (Outside BTC) Amarendra Narzary said there had been provision for complete rehabilitation of ex-BLT members as per clause 8 of BTC accord signed on February 10, 2003 but despite this fact, most of the ex-BLT members living outside BTC districts had not been rehabilitated. He said the ex-BLT members of outside BTC districts equally fought for the cause of the Bodos and Bodoland and sacrificed their lives but unfortunately, most of them are yet to receive rehabilitation. He demanded that the government should take proper initiative for complete rehabilitation of ex-BLT members of outside BTC.
Narzary said the Bodos of Karbi Anglong and Dima Hasao Autonomous Council should have been included in ST (Hills) list as per clause 6.1 of 3rd Bodo accord but yet to be included. He said the Bodos living in BTR had many legislators, EMs and MCLAs in the council to look after the developmental prospects in the region but the Bodos living outside BTC have lack of such opportunities for which they want one of two Rajya Sabha seats of Assam which is going to be vacant in April. He also demanded that the election in BKWAC should be held by delimitating constituencies and notification of villages as early as possible and release of NDFB founder Ranjan Daimary who was one of the signatories of 3rd Bodo peace accord.
