Excavation work near Bornadi in Tamulpur leads to uproar, Workers escape from spot

Tamulpur: The residents of sub-division Tamulpur on Friday staged a massive protest against the Forest Department and sand and stone contractors for allegedly carrying out illegal excavation in the heart of Bornadi River. The workers carrying out the excavation later fled from the spot.

It is to be noted that Bornadi flows through neighbouring country Bhutan and enters India through Assam.

As per a report, irate villagers alleged that Forest Department and sand and stone contractors are directly involved in carrying the excavation work in the heart of Bornadi River illegally, thus destroying the environmental conditions of the region through soil erosion.

They further alleged that contractors and Forest Department are also not following the Government guidelines which is mandatory while carrying out in excavation work.

It may also be mentioned that earlier local people had a complaint about the matter to the Forest Ranger and senior Forest officials about the matter, however, no actions have been initiated so far, claimed the villagers further.
