DIBRUGARH: The Excise Department team under the leadership of District Superintendent Bedanta Bhushan Saikia, since imposition of Model Code of Conduct for the forthcoming Assembly Election in the State, has seized 74663,905 litres of foreign liquor whose worth is Rs 7.46,13,905. The team also seized Rs.2,23,29,309 worth illicit country liquor during checking of public vehicles.
In one such check at Bogibeel bridge, the excise team also seized 2,000 cartons of Indian Made Foreign Liquor (IMFL) and 2,050 cartons of beer bottles. During regular checking at Rojabheta area on March 16, the excise team also seized 3,100 beer bottles from Dibrugarh-bound private trucks.
Meanwhile, the police have also stepped up its raids and checking in all the entry and exit points of the town following recovery of substantial amount of cash during search of cars and other vehicles on the road.
