TEZPUR: A day-long exhibition programme on millet-based recipes was organized by KVK Sonitpur in Oriantoli village with the launching of Assam Millet Mission by CM Himanta Biswa Sarma, it has also been largely emphasized by KVK, Sonipur to popularize millet and millet based food products among farming community of Sonitpur. The Assam Millet Mission is targeted to raise the nutrition quotient and doubling of farmers’ income. The mission will also targeted to increase crop productivity and contribute to crop diversification. At the very onset of the programme, Dr. Namita Dutta (Subject matter Specialist) welcomed the participants and briefed about Assam Millet Mission and its extent. Angana Sarmah, In-charge head of KVK,Sonitpur put forwarded importance of millet in human diet and how it can have positive impact on human health. Pompy Bora (Programme Assistant) KVK, Sonitpur discussed in details about nutritional value of different types of millets. She highlighted that apart from being rich in protein, fiber and several vitamins, millets also contains beta-carotene, especially the dark-colored grains, which converts to vitamin A, helps human body fight free radicals, and supports immune system. Bokul Roy, State Secretary of Jhaljhala NGO, which is an Assam based NGO, talked about various millet based food products, their preparation and how millet based products can be taken up as an enterprise. Dr. Ranjit Bordoloi (Subject matter specialist) spoke about Farmer Producer Company and requested the participants to join FPCs and take up agriculture in a collective manner.
