DIGBOI: Security agencies including Tinsukia police in Tinsukia district have on Saturday recovered an Improvised Explosive Device (IED) from the residential premises of one Hemanta Borah in Mamorani village under Digboi police station. The recovery of the explosive devices wrapped in a polythene bag just a couple of weeks ahead of the Nation’s Independence Day bear significance in multiple ways following the statements of one of the recently arrested link man of outfits belonging to ULFA (I) faction led by Paresh Baruah.

While speaking to the media over the sensational recovery, Tinsukia Additional SP, Bivas Das shared that a total of eight PEK, one detonator, and one power pack with six batteries have been recovered.

Two persons from the vulnerable areas were apprehended till filling of the report. Meanwhile, sensations gripped Digboi particularly the Mamorani area after the recovery of the explosive materials from an adjacent village close IOC AOD LPG Gopeneri Bottling plant which might be one of the soft targets of the millitants ahead of the significant day of national importance.

Several unlawful activities and movements of millitants cadres had earlier been reported close to the plant. It is pertinent to add here that the arrest of a transport driver along with contraband substance by Digboi police earlier and poorly regulated entry and exit passage of the bottling plant have revealed the fragile security and safety measures by private security set ups in such a inflammable plant. However, the entire vulnerable area has been cordoned off by security agencies along with the Assam Police and search operation continuing till filling of the report.
