Extortion bid in the name of ULFA (I) foiled in Charaideo, Police arrest two

Charaideo: Following a case of Extortion Demand, the Special Investigation Team (SIT) led by Additional SP (HQ) Mrinal Deka immediately swung into action and apprehended two persons involved in the case on Friday in Charaideo.

The Cyber Cell also recovered three Mobile handsets along with the SIM No. 9678769805 that were used for the Extortion demand in the name of ULFA (I) leader, Ganesh Lahon.

The apprehended person was identified as Bitupan Baruah (40) Ex-ULFA, Surrendered in 2009 is a resident of Changmai Gaon in Borhat and Arup Chetia (31) of Saffry Rangapathar Gaon in Sonari.

As per police report, an Extortion Demand was made in the name of ULFA (I) from one Bengali businessman from Borhat area in Charaideo District.

Based on the information, Mrinal Deka, Additional Superintendent of Police (HQ) along with Cyber Cell of Charaideo Police led by Shri Tridip Kumbang, APS, SDPO, Sonari closely monitored and worked upon leads and by evening, with an intelligent use of Tech and Human int. the case was cracked in less than 12 Hrs. Just after midnight, the Special Investigation Team (SIT) led by Additional SP (HQ) Mrinal Deka, apprehended the two persons.

A case in this connection was registered as Borhat PS C/No. 45/2019, under section 387 of the Indian Penal Code (IPC), R/W Sec. 10/13 UA(P) Act Dated 16/08/19.

Further Investigation in the matter is being made.
