DIBRUGARH: Police arrested a bogus doctor who was working as a Medical Officer in several tea estates in Dibrugarh district for the last 12 years, on Thursday. According to police, the arrested fake doctor was Simon Nag alias Dr Stephen Anthony. Police Officer in-charge of Chabua Police Station, Tulumoni Dowerah during investigation found some irregularities in Simon Nag's educational qualification, which compelled him to file a suo-moto case against the fraudster and the Medical Officer was arrested from his office at Mokalbari Tea Estate on Thursday. The case number is 9/21 under sec 420/419/468 I.P.C.

According to police, the accused Ruben Nag alias Sinon Nag , who secured only 137 marks overall in Class X examination from Bindyakota High School, Chabua, had been serving as a medical officer of Mokalbari Tea Estate in guise of one Karnataka based Dr Stephen Antony since 2018. The 37-year old fraudster had also served several upper Assam gardens since 2009 as a Medical Officer prior to joining in Mokalbari Tea Estate.

The real Dr Stephen Antony is currently working in Singapore. According to police, the fake doctor, Simon Nag, used to attend medical seminars along with other medical professionals and specialists with ease and was very popular amongst his patients. Nag was sent to judicial custody. Several citizens, however, believe that the arrest was the mere tip of the iceberg of the scandal..
