Fake Journalist Arrested with Drugs in Bongaigaon District

BONGAIGAON: A fake journalist was arrested on Tuesday with a sizeable quantity of banned drug brown sugar in the Rakhaldubi area of Bongaigaon district.

Nitu Banikya, a resident from Deohati area under Abhayapuri PS of Bongaigaon district, initially introduced himself as a journalist of a web portal. Another person named Amrit Ray, resident of Daukijhar area under Bongaigaon PS, was also nabbed with him.

Both were nabbed by the local people in the Rakhaldubi area after noticing their suspicious activity in a Tata Indica car (AS-01-BM-3842) parked by the side of the road. People searched them and found some containers with drugs in them. Police were informed by the local public immediately and they arrived and arrested the two accused. Jyoti Lahan, OC, Bongaigaon PS, said that they seized three containers of drugs along with syringe, a Press Card and other materials. "After arrest, we are interrogating and investigating the matter," the OC added.

The news portal has already published a statement on their Facebook page, denying existence of any such journalist in their organization. In their statement, the portal mentioned that Nitu Banikya was associated with them till the year 2020. "But after 2020, we have no journalist of such name," the portal mentioned.
