LAKHIMPUR: Spring festival of colours, Doul Utsav or Falgutsav, which is more commonly termed as Fakuwa or Faguwa, began from Thursday at the historic Basudev Than Naruwa Xatra, the noted Vaishnav Peeth of the north-eastern region, located in Dhakuakhana subdivision of Lakhimpur district.

This festival of colours is stated to have played at Lord Krishna's birth place at Gokula between Krishna and the gopis which philosophically depicts the glory of the aesthetic beauty and joy of human life manifested through the pure devotion of devotees to god.

The agenda of the festival started with the observance of the 'Gandhotsav' on Thursday evening following the tradition. During the event, the statue of Gosain, that is Lord Shri Krishna, was set up at the open pandal of the Xatra after cleaning it amid the blended notes of Gayan-Bayan and designated Falgutsav geets.

Then the traditional 'Ram Dhemali' was conducted with Gayan-Bayan. God will be invoked by the devotees presenting the religious Falgutsav geets for the whole night. On Friday, the main event of the Falgutsav, observance of 'Na-Dhemali' and night-long nam-kirtan will be conducted.
