Falgutsav starts at Basudev Than Naruwa Xatra in Lakhimpur district

LAKHIMPUR: Following the tradition, spring festival of colour, Doul Utsav or Falgutsav, which is more commonly termed as Fakuwa or Faguwa kickstarted from Monday at historic Basudev Than Naruwa Xatra, the noted Vaishnav Peeth of the Northeast Region, located in Dhakuakhana subdivision of Lakhimpur district. The festival has been organized in the Xatra with a three-day long programmes.

On the first day, the agenda of the festival began with Pratah-Prasanga in the early morning. It was followed by ‘Nam’ performed by women devotees. Then Bhagawat recitation programme was held. The main event of the festival began from 6:00 pm with traditional observation of the “Adhibas”. During the course of the event, the statue of Gosain, that is Lord Shri Krishna, was set up at the open pandal of the Xatra after cleaning it amid the blended notes of Gayan-Bayan and designated Falgutsav geets. The statue was also dressed in fresh fabric and massaged with fragrant oil. It was followed by a book release programme, wherein a book named “Parvate-Bhaiyame Basudev Than Naruwa Xatra” was released by journalist Arun Chamuah. A bhaona named ‘Matsya Avatar, Chari Ved Uddhaar’ was staged. Notably, this festival of colour is stated to have played at Lord Krishna’s birth place at Gokula between Krishna and the gopis which philosophically depicts the glory of the aesthetic beauty and joy of human life manifested through the pure devotion of devotees to God.

On Tuesday, on the designated day of the Falgutsav Poornima as per calendar, Lord Shri Krishna will be invoked by the devotees presenting the religious Falgutsav geets. Two bhaonas will be staged. The festival will conclude on Wednesday with traditional Ghunucha Yatra. On the occasion, various cultural programme in religious environment have been organized in the Xatra premises. Dhakuakhana subdivisional administration has extended due cooperation to hold the festival with success.
