Family Members of Martyred Jawan Exhorts To deal Extremism With Iron Hands

TANGLA: In one of the worst terror attack in Jammu and Kashmir since the Uri Army camp strike of September 18, 2016, following which surgical strikes were conducted in Pakistan-occupied Kashmir, at least 49 CRPF jawans were killed on Thursday evening in Pulwama district’s Awantipora town. Terrorists targeted a CRPF convoy, which was moving from Jammu to Srinagar. Reportedly, a jawan from Assam was also traveling in one of the vehicles that was traveling from the transit camp in Jammu and headed to Srinagar.

According to information, the martyred jawan hailing from Kalbarri village under Tamulpur PS in Baksa district identified as Maneswar Basumatary(48) of 98th Battalion was in the convoy consisting of 78 vehicles carrying 2,547 CRPF jawans. He was in the vehicle bearing registration number HR49 F0637.

Talking to this correspondent over phone, younger brother of the martyred jawan, Pronomeswar Basumatary mourning the demise said, “The grief of losing my brother is unfathomable, he has sacrificed his life while protecting the motherland, we sincerely exhort the government to deal extremists with iron hand.” He further said, “We will be elated if the government takes responsibility of looking after his children and bereaved wife and secures their life by offering a government job on compensatory ground.

It is pertinent here to mention that the jawan born in 1971 joined the paramilitary forces in 1994 and leaves behind his wife, a son and a daughter. The deadly terror attack took place at around 3.15 pm in Pulwama in Jammu and Kashmir where at least 49 jawans martyred. According to police, a suicide bomber rammed into the vehicle around 3.15 pm, taking the security forces completely by surprise.
