GUWAHATI: A farmers awareness camp was organized in Bherbheri village near Chanddubi area under Palasbari Revenue circle on Thursday. Regional Institute of Livestock Entrepreneurship & Management ( RILEM), Rani in association with the Diya foundation, a socio economic organization based in Loharghat, Mirza under kamrup district and the Goat Research Station , Byrnihat, AAU organized the camp to create awareness among the livestock farming community to ensure supplimentary income as far as possible by adopting farming activities scientifically to minimize the common health issues.

The programme was attended by Ashok Barman, ACS, Director, Veterinary, Assam and was accompanied by Dr. Pabitra Pator, Joint Director, Veterinary. A team of senior scientist from the Goat Research Station, Byrnihat AAU attended the awareness camp as resource persons headed by Dr. Dipak Bhuyan, chief scientist while he was accompanied by Dr. Pranjal Bora, and Dr. Maradona Nath, scientists , GRS respectively.

Dr. Prasanta Rabha, Dy. Director and Dr. Utpal Bharadwaj, Officer in Charge, including support staff were present in the day long programme representing RILEM. Dr. Chandan Sarania, the local veterinary officer was instrumental in making the programme effective while he was accompanied by his support staff.

A large number of local farmers attended the camp with participation of female attendees who actively participated and interacted with the departmental officers who were present in the programme as resource persons was truly encouraging.

Addressing the gathering , Ashok Barman, Director, Veterinary has clearly underlined the usefulness of livestock farming activities to generate sustainable income especially in post COVID situation where many of local youth's had to leave their job and forced to move home state with bleak further. He made an appeal to all present in the programme to adopt livestock farming with proper care and management to overcome the un employment issues by searching opportunities for livelihoods in veterinary sector.

Display of bye products viz., Vermi Compose, Feed block, fodder cultivation etc, manufactured by the scientists under GRS by making best use of waste products viz., goat excreta, paddy husk hay including the use of indigenous technology for fodder cultivation was addressed during the interactive session and farmers were made aware of the fact that use of such technology could enhance the income generated out of their animal products.

Free distribution of essential veterinary medicines, leaflets etc., were carrier out during today's programme. A progressive female goat farmer and the village head of Bherbheri village was felicitated in the programme acknowledging their efforts towards livestock farming practices, stated a press release.
