DONGKAMUKAM: Farmers of West Karbi Anglong, mostly from No. 5 Rongkhang and No. 6 Bithung Rengthama MAC constituencies, have expressed concern over the dry condition that has prevailed for the past 15 days. The farmers of West Karbi Anglong rely mostly on rain water for their agricultural fields. With no rainfall for the past 15 days, they are now worried.

"Water scarcity or drought-like situation leads to crop failure. I have experienced such a situation in the past and this year also a similar situation seems to be arising," said a farmer.

"Adequate water supply is highly essential for successful and sustainable farming, but from where do we get water? The irrigation system is very poor in the region and few water canals are in poor shape. We will suffer losses this year and our families will have to go hungry," said another farmer.

A similar situation can be seen in neighbouring Hojai district, which too has been hit by water scarcity. The farmers have urged the authorities concerned to help them out if they have to face a drought-like situation.
