Field day on Foxtail Millet crop organized by Krishi Vigyan Kendra

TINSUKIA: A field day on Foxtail Millet crop was organized by Krishi Vigyan Kendra (KVK), Tinsukia under the ‘Model Millet Project’ at Baruahgrant village of Bhitorpowai Gaon Panchayat of Margherita Subdivision on Tuesday. As a part of the International Year of Millet, the KVK Tinsukia, in collaboration with NABARD Assam, conducted demonstration of Foxtail Millet under Farm Sector Promotion Fund.

The objective of the programme was to showcase the demonstrated technology in farmer’s field conditions in order to popularize and promote the technology. Preeti Kumari, SDO (Civil) Margherita, attended the occasion as the chief guest while Binoy Deka, SDO Agriculture, and Anjana Sonowal, ADO Margherita, were present as invitees in the programme.

The programme was also attended by Barun Biswas, DDM, NABARD, Tinsukia, Trinayan Gogoi, assistant secretary and other officials from ‘We For You- an NGO’ and Dr Kripal Borah, Subject Matter Specialist (Soil Science), KVK, Tinsukia.

The demonstration on foxtail millet was conducted under the guidance of Priyanka Amonge, Subject Matter Specialist (Agronomy) of KVK, Tinsukia. The variety taken for demonstration was SiA 3085. The seed along with fertilizer and plant protection inputs were provided to the farmers. The farmers of Seuj Krishi Gut of Bhitorpowai Gaon Panchayat, Margherita were actively involved in the programme.
