TEZPUR: A training-cum-field testing of Rice Knowledge Bank (RKB) mobile application was held under APART at Krishi Vigyan Kendra, Sonitpur.

The training was attended by nearly 35 students of fourth year of Rural Agricultural Work Experience Programme (RAWEP). Addressing the participants, Dr. Arifa M Begum, in-charge Head of Krishi Vigyan Kendra, Sonitpur cited the importance of RKB application for students and farmers for proper technical guidance of crop establishment methods. She further stated that Krishi Vigyan Kendra, Sonitpur will provide all sorts of technical guidance and help to the farmers and students in building a stronger farming community in the district.

Dr. Roji Chutia, Subject Matter Specialist of Agronomy and Nodal officer of APART, KVK Sonitpur welcomed the participants and advised them to learn proper scientific cultivation practices. Dibyarishi Bhattacharjya, Junior Researcher of IRRI, also provided technical guidance to the farmers regarding proper scientific production and post harvest management technologies in order to increase yield and income of the farming community. He also stressed bridging the yield gap between research and practice in rice production by using this digital extension service which provides practical knowledge solutions for small scale farmers of Assam.

The programme was also attended by District Agriculture Officer cum Joint Director of Sonitpur district, Dr. Prakash Chandra Bora. During his speech, he highlighted the importance of such applications for farmers and students for establishing resource efficient crop establishment methods. He also stressed adoption of mechanization in farming to increase the income of the farmers. A field testing of the mobile application was also conducted towards the end of the programme where the participants were given specific tasks to perform after browsing the mobile application. They were made aware of different technologies and tools available in the application like production technology of stress-tolerant rice varieties, marketing system.

Rupsikha Goswami, APS, APART, Goutam Borah, Debajit Bhuyan and Rajib Sahu, Research Technicians of APART at KVK Sonitpur also actively participated in the training programme and assisted in guiding the participants in using the RKB mobile application. The participants were very satisfied with such a training programme and provided their valuable feedback at the end.
