Filmmaking is not just a profession, but a way to connect with people: Rima Das

DIBRUGARH: The Centre for Studies in Journalism and Mass Communication at Dibrugarh University organized a captivating interactive session featuring renowned filmmaker Rima Das. The event was held at the Indira Miri conference hall.

The programme had an awesome turnout with students and faculties from the centre and other university students joining in. The event commenced with a heartfelt lighting ceremony, symbolizing respect and homage to the iconic Dr Bhupen Hazarika. The chairperson of the Centre, Dr. PK Gogoi, along with the esteemed guests Rima Das and Priyanka Baruah, film marketer and PR manager, graced the occasion. The guests were felicitated for their remarkable contributions to the Assamese film industry.

In a heart-warming gesture, the students presented a special gift to Rima Das, expressing their admiration and appreciation for her outstanding work in the film industry. The chairperson delivered an introductory speech, highlighting the importance of such interactive sessions in nurturing talent and fostering creative minds. The chairperson said, “Today’s woman is a force to be reckoned with, breaking barriers and shattering stereotypes. She possesses the power to create change, inspire others, and make a lasting impact on society. It is essential to recognize and celebrate the incredible strength, resilience, and achievements of women in all walks of life.”

Rima Das, known for her exceptional storytelling skills, captivated the audience with her inspiring speech, sharing her experiences and insights into the world of cinema. She shared her knowledge and experience regarding filmmaking with the attendees. Rima Das said, “For me, filmmaking is not just a profession, but a way to connect with people on a deeper level. It’s about capturing emotions, sharing stories, and sparking conversations that can touch hearts and bring about positive transformations. Through the medium of cinema, we have the power to inspire, challenge societal norms, and create a more inclusive and empathetic world. It’s truly a privilege to be a part of this incredible art form.”

Further, she spoke about her Oscar nominated films Village Rockstars and shared her Toronto International Film Festival experiences with Bulbul can Sing and Tora’s Husband. The interactive session allowed attendees to engage with both Rima Das and Priyanka Baruah, gaining valuable knowledge and advice from these accomplished individuals.

The session also included moments of fun and light-hearted conversations, creating a vibrant atmosphere that encouraged interaction and networking among participants. To conclude the event, a student paid a soulful tribute to Dr Bhupen Hazarika by singing one of his iconic songs, leaving everyone touched and nostalgic.
