HAFLONG: Mohendra Kemprai, former Executive Member, NCHAC, and former president, All Dimasa Students' Union, lodged a First Information Report (FIR) against producer/director Aimee Baruah of the movie Semkhor for depicting a false story on tradition, culture and livelihood of the Semsas of Dima Hasao, before the Officer-in-charge, Haflong Police Station on Thursday

Kemprai in his FIR stated that being a responsible individual of the Dimasa society, he would like to draw his attention to the contents of the movie Semkhor.

"The stated movie Semkho is based on the traditions, culture and livelihood of 'Semsa' of the Dimasa community living in remote area of Semkhor region and our Dimasa society has always welcomed any media house/publication for making any documentaries or movie on their living and livelihood provided that it depicts their actual picture with ethics and moral values," stated Kemprai in the FIR.

"But nevertheless, I have a strong objection to the content of this particular movie Semkho, as the story that is portrayed in the movie is completely false and has depicted the livelihood, culture and tradition of the Semsas in a wrong way.

"It is to be mentioned that the producer/director intended for a commercial gain and personal fame over the movie and never made an in-depth study into the concerned subject pertaining to the lives of Semsas before making the final outlining of the story on the Semsa tradition, culture and livelihood and as a result of which the movie depicted a false story of our society and that has led to the setup of a false picture of our society around the world and this has deeply hurt sentiments and morality in particular and of our Dimasa people in general.

"Therefore, the OC of Haflong Police station is fervently requested to examine the movie in consultation with the social experts of the Dimasa Community and take necessary action to cut out/give up the objectionable clips/scenes of the movie so that it can avert the further controversy in the matter."
