First ever Eye Bank of northeast; Himanta Biswa Sarma inaugurates eye bank at GMCH

Inaugurating the eye bank and super specialty hospital Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma said that the hospital has been dedicated to the needy in collaboration with the state and central government.

Sarma said, "We will soon launch a super specialty hospital in Dibrugarh. The hospital has been set up with much-advanced equipment. There is no hospitals in the state which have such advanced equipment for treatment."

The second wing of the super-specialty hospital will be inaugurated in February and the hospital will be developed as the autonomous unit such as the cancer hospital. The hospital will have one Director, six to eight Neurosurgeons, he added.

Health Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma took to Twitter and wrote," The Eye Bank inaugurated today at GMCH is a boon not only for #Assam but for #NorthEast as a whole. The GoA in collaboration with Tata Trust, Hans Foundation & LVPEI has taken a novel step towards eye care in the region."

He also said that a cancer hospital with over 300 beds would soon be launched, and a separate hospital for women and children would also be opened at GMCH.He further informed that the GMCH will soon be transformed into 3000 bedded hospital and the PET MRI will also be launched in February for the cancer patients.

Speaking about the salary of the doctors, the Minister said that the salary of the doctors would be equal to those of the AIIMS doctors, adding that the state government has taken such a measure so that the people would get same health facilities as private hospitals in a minimum cost.
