BISWANATH CHARIALI: In the Municipal Elections, 2022 voters will be able to cast their votes in 22 polling stations for a total of 22 wards in Biswanath and Chatiya Municipalities in Biswanath subdivision in Biswanath district. The district administration has already started training for election staff to conduct polling in 18 polling stations for 12 wards of Biswanath Chariali Municipal Board and in 8 polling stations for 6 wards of Chatia Municipal Board.

The first training programme for the polling personnel has been held in Biswanath College. The training programme was conducted by Master Trainers Pradeep Talukder, Diganta Sharma, Balin Bhuyan and Bhaben Kalita for 33 presiding officers and 33 first polling officers in the first phase of the training while it was inaugurated by Additional Deputy Commissioner Liza Talukdar. It is to be noted that Tripurendra Patre, Chief Executive Officer, Lakhimpur Zilla Parishad, who was appointed as the observer of the municipal elections in the district, was also present at the training and supervised the entire training process. On the other hand, the second training programme for all the polling staff will be held on February 28 and March 2 respectively. It may be mentioned that this time the election of the Municipal Board will be held through Electronic Voting Machine and 132 election staff will be employed for the voting of the two Municipal Boards.

Meanwhile, on the last day of the withdrawal of nomination papers, 6 candidates from Biswanath Chariali Municipality and 3 candidates from Chatia Municipality withdrew their nomination papers on Sunday for which the number of candidates contesting in the elections of Biswanath Chariali Municipality and Chatia Municipality remained at 19 and 8, respectively.
