Five arrested for damaging idols in Kali Mandir of Dhubri

DHUBRI: Five persons suspected to have been involved in damaging and ransacking of idols in South Tokrechara Pt-IV Kali Mandir and partially damaging the idol of Devi Kali and Lord Shiva under Golokganj police station of Dhubri district in the wee hours of August 23, were arrested on Saturday.

Police personnel of Golakganj Police Station as well as senior police officers of the district reached the spot and at first marginalized any chances of emotional eruption on communal lines with the help of some prominent persons of the locality and Mandir Committee members.

Soon the investigation started and the sniffer dog of CRPF 48 Bn was used along with all available local information as well as engaging sources. In this connection, a case was also registered on the basis of the FIR of Ranjit Ray, president of South Tokrechara Pt-IV Kali Mandir vide Golakganj PS Case No- 982/2019 U/S 120(B)/457/295/295)A)/427 IPC, Deputy Superintendent of Police (Headquarter), Trinayan Bhuyan informed.

Later, five suspected persons were apprehended, namely Dinesh Ch. Ray (39), son of Haladhar Ch. Ray of South Tokrechara Pt- II, Surajit Sutradaha (24), son of Dilip Sutradhar of village South Tokrechara Pt- IV, Asish Sarkar (23), son of Anil Sarkar of village South Tokrechara Pt- IV, Cheniram Ray (33) son of Manglu Ray of village South Tokrechara Pt- II and Sanjay Barman (22), son of Santosh Barman of village South Tokrechara Pt- III, all under Golakganj police station in Dhubri district.

The accused persons were picked up on the basis of local intelligence input on their suspicious movement and their location in and around the Kali Mandir on that night, besides information on them being drug addicts, a source of Golokganj police station informed. During interrogation, the fact of their involvement in the case was established. The persons were hence arrested and later forwarded to judicial custody.
