LAKHIMPUR: Five more fatalities due to COVID-19 infection were reported in Lakhimpur in the last two days. The deceased persons have been identified as Strughan Nayak (48), Line No. of Harmoti Tea Estate, Mitali Payeng Pegu (21) of Garchiga village, Gagan Hazarika (56) of Jorhatia-Charaimoria, Raja Choudhuri (45) of Dhakuakhania village and Hira Borgohain (85) of Borgohain Gaon, Japisajia. The former three persons died on Monday while latter two breathed their last on Tuesday.

On the other hand, a total of 239 fresh COVID-19 cases were detected in the district in last two days. Out of them 118 cases were detected on Monday while 121 cases were detected on Tuesday. On Monday, 114 cases were reported as positive for COVID-19 as per the results of the Rapid Antigen Test (RAT) and 4 cases were reported as per Reverse Transcription Polymerase Chain Reaction (RTPCR) Test.

On Tuesday, 112 cases were reported as positive for COVID-19 as per the results of RAT and 9 cases were reported as per RTPCR Test. The detected RAT cases were reported from North Lakhimpur Urban Hospital (2), Dhalpur BPHC (23), Bihpuriya BPHC (21), Naoboicha BPHC (16), Boginadi BPHC (23), Ghilamora BPHC (3), Dhakuakhana BPHC (3), Lakhimpur Medical College and Hospital Respiratory Clinic (21).

With these fresh patients, the cumulative total of COVID-19 cases of the district has hiked to 13,034 since April 4 of the last year. A total of 4,989 people of the district tested positive for COVID-19 during the second wave of the contagion since April 1 of the current year. Out of them, 64 people succumbed to the pandemic, raising the overall tally of the COVID-19 fatalities of the district up to 123.
