SILCHAR: Five pistols, including a pen pistol, were seized and two men arrested in this connection during a joint operation by Badarpur police and BSF from Station Road, Badarpur in Karimganj district in Assam on Monday.
As per latest reports, a team of officials of BSF, based on specific information, conducted an operation near Punjab National Bank at Station Road, Badarpur around 11:30am on Monday morning and nabbed two persons. Five pistols were found from their possession. Officials of Badarpur police station were also involved in the operation.
The two arrested persons were identified as Nurul Islam (31) and H. Liam Khiyam (22). Nurul is a resident of Lamargram, Patharkandi in Karimganj, while Khiyam hails from Tuensang, Nagaland. Of the five pistols, one was found to be a pen gun.
During police interrogation, the arrested men confessed that they brought the pistols from Dimapur to Badarpur to sell them. They came to Badarpur from Dimapur by train.
The Karimganj police shared about the incident via a tweet on Monday afternoon. The tweet said -- A joint team of Badarpur PS and BSF recovered 4 pistols and 1 pen pistol from 2 persons in Badarpur Bazaar area. Timely intervention prevented these lethal weapons from falling into the wrong hands! @assampolice @DGPAssamPolice @gpsinghips
It may be mentioned that it was probably the second incident involving seizure of pistol in Karimganj district in the past two-and-a-half months. In July, an Italy-made pistol was seized from a house at Hijim under Nilambazar police station in Karimganj district. A team of police officials led by the officer in-charge of Nilambazar police station, based on a tip-off, had conducted a raid a house in the village near the Indo-Bangladesh border on the night of July 15 and seized an Italy-made pistol with three bullets.
