Flash flood hits 28 villages under 3 Revenue Circles in Lakhimpur district

LAKHIMPUR: Due to incessant rain in North Assam and neighbouring State of Arunachal Pradesh for the week, the major rivers of Lakhimpur district are overflowing.

At present, the water level of mighty Brahmaputra, Subsnsiri, Ranganadi, Shingara, Gabharu, Dikrong, Pichala, Dropang is increasing. As a result of it, flash flood has hit 28 revenue villages under Bihpuriya, Narayanpur and Naoboicha Revenue Circles (RCs) of the district. As per report found from the District Disaster Management Authority, 18 villages named Dharmapur Block, Ahmedpur Block, Sonapur, Sonapur Block, Reserve Gaon, 68/65 No. Grant, Kehutoli Block, No. 1 Dharmapur, No. 2 Kehutoli, Torajuli, Fatehpur, Kenduguri, Bodoti Miri, Gahori Ghat PGR, Podumoni, Islampur Gaon, No. 4 Dharmapur, Garmur under Bihpuriya RC have been inundated by flash flood. On the other hand 7 revenue villages under Narayanpur RC, namely No. 1 Tatibahar, No. 2 Tatibahar, No. 4 Tatibahar, No. 2 Notgaon, No. 1 Maghnuwa, Ganakdoloni and Futabhog has been affected by flash flood caused by River Dropang. Similarly, No. 2 Borsala, Mahghuli, Pandhowa under Naoboicha RC have also been inundated by overflowing water of River Shingara.

Several infrastructures and embankments of the district have been damaged during the flood. Flash flood of River Shingra breached Panchayat bundh at Mahghuli from Ajijur Rahman Chuburi to Ruhul Haji Chuburi via Abdul Hussen Chuburi on Sunday. The same river breached side bundh at| Pandhowa and the PWD Road to Mahghuli on the same day. Similarly, several infrastructures, embankments have been affected by flood in Narayanpur, Dhakuakhana, Kadam, North Lakhimpur RCs too. The present deluge has affected a total of 6297 people, 108.00 hectare crop areas and 633 animals of the district.

On the other hand, power generating corporation, NEEPCO has been releasing the excess water from the catchment area of the Ranganadi Hydro Electric Plant (RHEP) located at Yazali of Arunachal Pradesh through River Ranganadi since May 13. Similarly, NEEPCO has been releasing the excess water from the catchment area of Pare Hydro Electric Project (PHEP), located at Doimukh of the neighbouring State since Monday through River Dikrong. At the time of filing this report, the Radial Gate No. 2 of RHEP was open by 1000 mm while Radial Gate No. 2 of PHEP was open by 2100mm. As a result, the water level of both rivers has been increasing.
