LAKHIMPUR: With the cease of heavy downpour in Lakhimpur and neighbouring State of Arunachal Pradesh from Wednesday night, the first wave of a flash flood in Lakhimpur district began to improve from Thursday.

However, a total of 21revenue villages under three Revenue Circles (RC) are still under the flood water. These villages are Dhunaguri, Dhunabari Khanikar No. 1 Adhakhona, Bahgora Deuri, Bholukaguri, No. 1 Chenimora Kankur, Bahgora Pathar, Purani Bahgora, Pabho Bhekeli, No. 1 Kaniajan, No. 2 Kaniajan, No. 1 Aunibari, No. 2 Aunibari and No. 2 Chenimora Kankur under Bihpuriya RC, Namoni Dorge, Kadam Bagan Gaon, Kadam Boro Gaon, Kadam Na-Bhagania, Kadam Mising Gaon, Bhurbandha under Kadam RC and Phutabhog under Narayanpur RC.

The release of excess water from the Ranganadi Hydro Electric Plant (RHEP) by North Eastern Electric Power Corporation Limited (NEEPCO) stopped on Thursday. After releasing the excess water from the catchment area of the Ranganadi dam continuously for a week-long period from May 22, the Dam Gate No. 5 was closed at 12.00 pm on the day. As a result of it, flood caused by the River Ranganadi receded from the larger Amtola area under North Lakhimpur RC and Panchnoi area under Naoboicha RC.

On Wednesday, after the release of water from the dam by opening the Gate No. 5 by 1000mm from 10.00am, the same was released by opening the same gate by 600mm from 7.30pm and by 500mm from 11.30pm onwards. On Thursday, the same gate was opened by 100mm from 6.40am to 12.00pm.
