Guwahati: Online marketing giant Flipkart has enabled its Assamese language services for its customers on Friday. Customers can search for products in the Assamese language on the Flipkart app as the language has been added in the app.

Assam Industry & Commerce Minister Chandra Mohan Patowary shared the new development in the service of Flipkart on his Twitter account. He tweeted, "Glad to inform that @Flipkart now offers Assamese language services in the marketing of products. This will enable the people of Assam to enjoy e-commerce in our own language."

The minister said that it will help the people of Assam to enjoy the e-commerce facility in the Assamese language.

Reacting to his tweet, Rajnessh Kumar, SVP and Chief Corporate Affairs, tweeted, "Really delighted with the addition of Assamese language interface on @Flipkart. It will brings more & more consumers in the State access to ecommerce in their own language and also boost market access for MSMEs/sellers/artisans."

To enable the service, consumers have to update the application and turn the language on in the settings.

Apart from English, the consumers can avail the e-commerce facility through Flipkart in 11 languages including Assamese.

The other Indian languages in which people can avail the online marketing facility via Flipkart include –

• Hindi

• Tamil

• Bengali

• Marathi

• Telugu

• Kannada

• Odia

• Malayalam

• Gujarati

• Punjabi

Flipkart has added all these Indian languages' support to its app in line with its aim of leveraging locally developed language solutions to help bring the next 200 million customers on board.

As per the sources, more than 5.4 million words have been translated to enable Gujarati language experience.

Flipkart is an Indian e-commerce company, headquartered in Bengaluru, Karnataka. Founded in 2007, the company initially focused on online book sales before expanding into other product categories such as consumer electronics, fashion, home essentials, groceries, and lifestyle products.
