DOOMDOOMA:  A delegation of Flood Erosion Resistance Struggle Forum (FERSF), Dibrugarh and Tinsukia districts, represented by its president Binod Kedia, vice-president Bhobas Upadhyai and media advisor Santanu Goswami, visited the erosion-affected area of Bindhakota, Mulukgoan under Chabua LAC in the Dibrugarh district on Thursday and took stock of the situation there.

Although the Water Resource Department (WRD), Dibrugarh Division, is taking some emergent measures to protect the river bank, yet it is a matter of grave concern that without conducting a high-level survey with the help of modern technology by the river experts, it will not be possible to stop the erosion.

In a statement to the press, the delegation stated, “In this connection, we had requested the Government of Assam several times through memoranda and also held discussion with the Chief Minister and Water Resources Development Minister to take help of national-level river experts to find out the concrete solution of the present situation.”

“We, therefore, renew our appeal to the State Government to look into the matter,” said president Binod Kedia. Due to morphological changes taking place in Dibang and Siyang rivers, they had changed their courses over the years and damaged the entire river bank of the Brahmaputra River in both Dibrugarh and Tinsukia districts. It, therefore, requires merely satellite and other surveys with modern technology to find out proper solutions to protect the river bank, the statement further stated.
