NAGAON: The flood scene in the Nagaon as well as Hojai districts is still grim. The overflowing water from the Kapili, Haria, Nishari and the mighty Brahmaputra have submerged over 270 villages under seven revenue circles in the Nagaon district till the time of filing this report.

Besides, during the fresh wave of flood over 4.40 lakh people under those revenue circles have been grievously affected and the houses of many among those flood-hit people are still under flood water.

As per a report issued by district disaster management authority, Nagaon this afternoon, over 109 revenue villages under the Kampur revenue circle, 87 villages under the Raha revenue circle, 44 revenue villages under the Nagaon revenue circle have been submerged by the overflowing water from Kapili, Haria and Nishari rivers, while 15 revenue villages under the Dhing revenue circle, seven villages under the Samaguri revenue circle, five villages under the Rupahi revenue circle and two villages under the Kaliabor revenue circle have been submerged by the overflowing water from the mighty Brahmaputra.

As per the report, over 12,912 inmates are presently taking shelter in almost 50 relief camps set up by the district administration. Besides, the overflowing water from Kolong river also submerged a large areas at Nagaon Milanpur Baidatup, Nehrubali, Uttar Haiborgaon and Khutikotia areas in the town so far.

Meanwhile, the flood water from Kapili river swept down an electric tower of the Silchar-Misa 400KV double power circuit line near at Lalmati village in the Hojai district a couple of days back, because of which the power transmission throughout the lines have been disrupted for last two days, sources from the department concerned added.

On the other hand, the State Disaster Management Minister as well as the State Revenue Minister Jogen Mahan on Monday arrived at Nagaon Kothiatoli Chariali. The Minister visited two relief camps and inspected the facilities as well as other essential requirements being provided by the district administration as well as district disaster management authority, Nagaon. Besides, the Minister also took part in a programme of distribution of essential goods among the inmates initiated by the Ram Krishna Mission there. He was accompanied by Barhampur MLA Jitu Goswami, officials from Nagaon district administration and district disaster management authority, Nagaon, sources added.
