DOOMDOOMA: With water level of most of the major rivers like Noa-Dihing (Chumoni), Brahmaputra (Dhola), Kundil (Chapakhowa, Sadiya) and Doomdooma (Doomdooma) subsiding, except Buri-Dehing (Margherita) which is flowing above danger level at 134.76 m(D/L 134.42m), the overall flood situation in Tinsukia district improved a little on Monday with total number of population reeling under flood being reduced to 44,405 from 54,000 of the previous day as per official report.

The total number of villages submerged is 42 (Doomdooma Revenue Circle - 30, Tinsukia RC - 11, Sadiya RC - 1). Significantly, in Sadiya as against 25 villages on Sunday, the lone flood-affected village was one. Consequently, the numbers of relief camps too reduced to 13 from 24 on Sunday. The total number of animals (big and small) affected has been estimated at 5,264 and poultry at 1,116. So far there is no report of death from anywhere. The area of crop damage is under assessment. Likewise, there is no estimate of animals washed away and houses damaged.

Although overall flood situation improved a little bit, erosion by the Kundil River at many places of Sadiya is causing anxiety to people. According to Circle Officer, Sadiya, Barsha Duarah, erosion was going on at 8th Mile Sadiya at Kundil river bridge which is just near the National Highway. Besides this, erosion by Kundil River had been going on in several places of Sadiya, including Gurungbasti embankment. Again there are reports of erosion going on in Amarpur area as well. In Amarpur, three rivers, including Datung, Dibang, flow by it and cause heavy erosion every year. At the same time, the place is inaccessible by road. River boats are the only means of communication to reach there.
