BARPETA: The flood situation in Barpeta district has turned grim. Due to incessant rain, the mighty River Brahmaputra and its tributaries are overflowing and have flooded most of the villages in the entire district.

Hundreds of villages of eight revenue districts have submerged. On Thursday morning, the Barpeta Road-Manas National Park connecting road was breached at Kuthrijhar village and almost 2 km area was completely breached. According to district administration, till now all total 60 villages have been affected by flood.

On the other hand, the rising water of Burhadiya River breached Sarthebari-Pathsala connecting road at Batiya. Barpeta- Kayakuchi-Bhabanipur road has also been submerged by flood. The mighty River Brahmaputra is flowing 0.23 metre above danger level, Manas River - 0.87 metre, Pahumara River -2.09 metre, Kaldiya River - 1.52 metre, Nakhanda River- 1.09 metre, Marachawlkhowa River - 0.73 metre and Bhelengi River - 0.68 metre above danger level.

It is feared that more places in the district will submerge as there has been no let up in the rain and heavy rainfall has been predicted in the State for the next two days.
