Flood wreaks havoc in Bajali due to heavy downpour

PATHSALA: Due to heavy downpour for the past few days, the water level of rivers Kaladia and Deojara is rising. In Bargandubi area under Bajali revenue circle, large areas have been inundated after a portion of the newly-repaired embankment was breached.

This is the fourth time that flood has affected the village. Around 300 families and 1,500 people and 450 domestic animals have been affected in this wave of flood, informed the Circle Officer of Bajali revenue circle. Flood water submerged roads and residential areas of the area. In Dekapara of Bhaluki village, a ring bundh was also washed away by the flood water. In Barnalikuchi Ballartari, water started to flow over the embankment. The Madan Rowata Road has been submerged in Uluwa and this has affected road communication.

Meanwhile, the farmers here who had prepared paddy seedlings for the ensuing cultivation are in distress as their paddy seedlings have also been inundated by water in various places of Bajali revenue circle, including Bargandubi area.

Munindra Sarma, Deputy Commissioner of Barpeta, along with Nayan Jyoti Bhagabati, SDO (C ) Bajali visited the Bargandubi area and took stock of the flood situation. Dr Sangita Sarma, Revenue Officer, who is monitoring the situation, informed that the authority was ready to distribute relief materials in the affected areas.
