Majuli: It was a very happy and one of their most memorable moments for eight boys of Majuli. They shared a meal with the just-inducted young and dynamic Chief Minister of Assam Himanta Biswa Sarma.
Just three days after being sworn in as the Chief Minister of Assam, Sarma visited Majuli as part of his government's COVID Action Plan where each Cabinet Minister has been assigned districts to ensure that the spread of the virus is contained and each district is well-equipped to handle any eventuality.
During his election visit, Sarma made it a point to invite these young boys to have lunch with him as they had expressed their desire while he was campaigning ahead of the polls to meet him after he won the elections. The Chief Minister obliged.
Sarma wrote in his tweet:
"Some memories are forever! During election campaign in Majuli, I had a pleasant walk with few young friends, who had fondly asked me to come again. Laced with their warmth, I could not resist the temptation of having lunch with these 8 boys today. Humbling!"
In the video shared by CM Sarma on his Twitter handle, the CM can be heard asking the boys where do they study and if they visited Guwahati among other chit chat.
One of the boys asked CM Sarma about his favourite fish variety and what he likes to eat. The CM said that for the past four years he has not been eating any fish or meat. It is during the last year when COVID started that he began eating fish.
"For the past four years, I have not been eating any fish or meat. I used to eat earlier but I had stopped. It is just last year when COVID started and there were fewer vegetables and greens available last year, I started eating fish," CM Sarma told the boys.
Another boy wanted to know when will the one lakh employment happen (the BJP had promised that if elected to power, the BJP government would provide one lakh employment to unemployed youths of the state). The CM responded by saying that it would take about a year. (The government has already set up a committee under the chairpersonship of Assam Finance Minister Ajanta Neog to prepare a roadmap for the implementation of this. The committee would submit the plan in a month).
CM Sarma told each of the boys to study hard and score 10 points more in their maths paper. "I will tell your headmaster to share your marksheets with me. From now on, I want each of you to study hard and score 10 points more in your Maths exam," CM Sarma told the boys as they enjoyed a sumptuous lunch.
Fondly called 'Mama' (maternal uncle), Sarma is extremely popular among the children and youth of the state. During his pre-poll campaigning has was often seen holding infants in his arms during the poll rallies or sitting and chatting or just interacting with the youngsters. Many see him as their role model and idolise him.
