The programme in Dhubri was hosted by the District Museum Authority with the support of the district administration. The team led by Regina Cormona of Brazil visited the places of Dhubri district rich in folk art and craft and took part in interactive sessions with the local craftspersons.

While visiting around the art of terracotta in Asharikandi, Director of NECARDO, Binoy Bhattacharya explained the unique style of Asharikandi terracotta and said that time had come to get this style of terracotta recognized worldwide. The team also visited Ramraikutir Xatra in Satrasal where they were greeted with traditional Vaishnavite customs and traditions and were served the traditional Rajbongshi delicacies as a welcome gesture by the locals of Satrasal.

The three-day long residency programme ended on Thursday with the Heritage Walk in prime locations of the town led by Bijoy Kumar Sharma followed by a workshop on weaving of Rabha textiles in a village near Gauripur. Talking to The Sentinel, team leader Regina Cormona said that the entire Dhubri district was full of art, culture and tradition.

“Dhubri district, including Dhubri town, is itself an open museum where at every other step historical religious and heritage sites are found. It is really amazing. We enjoyed and learnt a lot here,” Cormona said. Dhubri district Development Commissioner Banashree Nath also joined the group in the workshops and commented that such visits and programmes would promote tourism in Dhubri.

District Museum Officer Mrinmoy Das informed that the residency programme would indeed help the local art and craft form of Dhubri in finding a place in the international platform after its craft form got added in the ongoing exhibition at the Assam State Museum titled ‘Art as Food, Ritual and Offering’, which would further travel to Delhi and thereafter to different countries.
