NAGAON: "Forensic investigation is absolutely necessary in the modern era to get to the bottom of all criminal cases. Only then will the victim get proper justice," Nagaon Superintendent of Police Anand Mishra said this while speaking during a live webinar organized by the Forensic Investigation Agency (FIA), Bilaspur, Chhattisgarh on 'Role Of Policing In Criminal Investigation and Public Safety'. Mishra was the keynote speaker in the webinar, stated a press release.

Importance of Forensic investigation

The Nagaon SP referred to an incident of Dhubri where the bodies of two young girls were found in the pond. The girls were not wearing garments and it was night time. IPS Mishra reached the spot with his team but by then the crowd of villagers had completely disturbed the scene of crime. He feared that it was a case of sexual assault, but in the post-mortem report this suspicion turned out to be false. Mishra said that if forensic investigation could have been done immediately, then undoubtedly the case could have been investigated properly.

Mishra said that in the present scenario, criminals were committing crimes in a new way due to which police had to continuously strengthen the policing. "The role of the police becomes very important in both criminal investigation and public safety," he added.

During a conversation with forensic professionals, IPS Mishra referring to the verse of the Gita- Paritranaya sadhunam vinashaya cha dushkritam. He said that in this verse lies the duty of the police. "We have to minimize the gap between the police and the public. Without public participation, policing becomes pointless. Public-police both need to work together," said the Nagaon SP. FIA Director Dipendra Barmate, founder of Arka Viyat Foundation and social activist Vinay Sonwani, Aalind Tiwari, FIA team members and students of forensic science department were present.
