Forest officer Selim Ahmed lodges FIR against BJP Goalpara president

GOALPARA: Rongjuli range forest officer Selim Ahmed on Wednesday lodged an FIR against Himadry Das, the Goalpara district president of Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) at the Dhupdhara police station alleging that Das had encroached upon a plot of forest land under his range and begun construction.

On the other hand, Himadry Das, through a press meet held in Goalpara town on Thursday, denied the allegation and showed land patta and other legal documents and claimed that the land belonged to a local tribal man and he had taken it on lease to run a petrol pump. Das also showed the no objection certificate issued by the office of the Deputy Commissioner, Goalpara district.

Meanwhile, Das also claimed that the move by the Ranger was politically motivated and intended to tarnish Das' image. The Goalpara district police have initiated an investigation into the matter.
