DOOMDOOMA: Pradip Kumar Dutta, former Divisional Engineer, Bharat Sanchar Nigam Limited (BSNL), breathed his last at a private nursing home, Dibrugarh on Thursday morning. He was 73 and is survived by his wife and two daughters.

Dutta hailed from Tinsukia and had his early education there. After completing M.Sc in Physics from Gauhati University (GU), he joined the telecommunication (Telcom) department, Government of India, later converted to a corporation under the name and style BSNL, and rose to the post of Divisional Engineer till his superannuation. Besides working in various places of Assam, he also worked for some time in Mizoram. He proved to be a very efficient officer under BSNL and was very expert in mechanical work. He brought under coverage many interior places of Tinsukia and Sadiya subdivision under telecom service.

After retirement, he kept himself engaged in various socio-welfare activities like Senior Citizens' Association and Doomdooma Namghar Samity. He extended his helping hand to wife Ranu Dutta who was an active member of Doomdooma Sakha Lekhika Samaroh Samiti and Ramdhenu Mahila Chora. His death cast a pall of gloom in the town and was widely mourned by many organizations, including Doomdooma Press Club, Doomdooma Sakha Lekhika Samaroh Samiti, Ramdhenu Mahila Chora and Doomdooma Namghar Samity.
