Guwahati: Former Assam Chief Minister Lt Tarun Gogoi will be conferred with the Bhimbor Deuri Award, 2020, posthumously. The award ceremony will be held on Monday at Guwahati Press Club.

The award is going to be conferred by Deuri Peoples' Justice Forum.

Former CM Lt Tarun Gogoi was an erudite man of unparalleled integrity with active habits and devotion to national duty. He was twice Union Minister and six-time Lok Sabha member.

The Bhimbor Deuri award is given to people who show excellence in working towards the betterment of a community.

Bhimbor Deuri was one of the main architects of the Khasi Darbar Hall Resolutions created in the year 1945 where indigenous leaders of different ethnic identities adopted resolutions to restore their independent homelands against Indian occupation.

His vision was that tribes should have the essence of freedom and independence.

He criticised the improper mass literacy campaign during the Assam Legislative Council budget session. He always fought for the rights of the indigenous communities.
