HAFLONG: Demanding immediate arrest of culprit involved in Sontosh Hojai case and proper implementation of Memorandum of Settlement (MoS) signed between government of India, government of Assam and both the factions of Dima Halam Daogah, Dilip Nunisa, former Chairman of Dima Halam Daogah and president, Halali Progressive Welfare Society, staged a silent protest in front of the office of the Dima Hasao Deputy Commissioner on Monday.
Nunisa, along with his former colleagues and members of the Halali Progressive Welfare Society and the civil societies of Dima Hasao, have been demanding immediate arrest of Surjyakanta Morang, DSP who has been accused by the wife of Hojai. In protest against the government's indifference towards the people of Dima Hasao he also tonsured his head in presence of a huge gathering. Talking to media, Nunisa said that many more incidents of such killings happened but voice of local people was not heard by the authority concerned; therefore the people of the district have been compelled to launch strong agitation in future demanding justice.
The Khaspur Royal Capital Development Committee and All Dimasa students Union (ADSU) of three districts of Barak valley also demanded immediate arrest of murder of Sontosh Hojai. Halali Progressive Welfare Society has declared 36 hour peaceful "Dimaraji Bandh" from 5 am of May 14 to 5 pm of May 15. The HPWS appealed for maintaining peace and tranquillity during bandh to make the bandh successful to draw the attention of governments to stop secret killing and to accelerate proper enquiry.
